Handgun Skills Series Courses

Basic Revolver Course

The popularity of the semi-automatic handgun has caused a significant decline in the use of revolvers for sport shooting or self-defense.  This is in spite of the fact that many people with a Texas License to Carry a Handgun carry revolvers, often small, easy-to-conceal, five-shot revolvers.

This 3 hour Basic Revolver Course covers drawing and engaging from a holster and engaging one or more targets, speed reloading, and close-range target engagement.  This is NOT a course for people with no handgun experience. People with little or no handgun experience should take the Basic Handgun Skills Course before taking the Basic Revolver Course.

A "good" holster and gun belt are required for this course.  Do not buy a holster that closes when you draw your handgun, thus requiring you to open the holster with your weak hand before reholstering.  There are many good holster manufacturers, including Comp-Tac a local company with great customer service and excellent delivery times.

Prerequisite:  Basic Handgun Skills or recent prior handgun shooting experience
Ammo Required:  100 rds minimum
Class duration:  3 hrs.
Class Size:  Maximum 10 students
Class Fee:  $125 ($99 for PSC Members & family)

Intermediate II Handgun Skills Course

The 3 hour Intermediate II Handgun Skills Course covers drawing and engaging from a holster and engaging one or more targets, shooting on the move, use of cover and malfunction drills.

A "good" holster and gun belt are required for this course, even if you are going to carry a handgun in a purse or fanny pack.  Do not buy a holster that closes when you draw your handgun, thus requiring you to open the holster with your weak hand before reholstering.  There are many good holster manufacturers, including Comp-Tac a local company with great customer service and excellent delivery times.  Students carrying a handgun in a purse or fanny pack will spend some time covering issues related to this method of carrying a defensive handgun, but the shooting portion of the class will involve only the use of a holster.

Prerequisite:  Basic Handgun Skills: Intermediate I
Ammo Required:  200 rds minimum
Class duration:  3 hrs.

Class Size:  Maximum 8 students
Class Fee:  $125 ($99 for PSC Members & family)

Advanced Handgun Skills Courses

The Advanced Handgun Skills I Course (AHS I) introduces the use of barricades and other cover, shooting moving targets,  shooting from unusual positions and advanced malfunction/incapacitation drills. Students will hone the skills they learned in the first three courses by employing them in realistic scenarios.  Standing still and shooting at stationary targets is useful for training, but only to a point.  There comes a point when every person carrying a defensive handgun must practice under more realistic conditions

Adcanced Handgun Skills II Course (AHS II) builds on the skills learned in AHS I and takes  the students performance to a higher level.  Greater stress is placed on the student forcing them to perform under pressure to better simulate a real life-or-death event.  Students will also receive instruction in a "shoot house."

Ammo required: 300 rounds minimum.
Class duration:  3 hrs.
Class Size:  Maximum 8 students
Class Fee:  $99.
